Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using dev-drill ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and subscribers of the Service.
2. Description of Service
dev-drill is a web-based learning platform that provides deliberate practice exercises for software engineers. The Service uses AI to generate personalized exercises, evaluate answers, and provide interactive study material. The Service is operated by Sebastian Sigl ("we", "us", "our").
3. Eligibility
To use the Service, you must:
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Have a GitHub account for authentication.
- Comply with these Terms and all applicable laws.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
4. Account Registration
You register for the Service using GitHub OAuth. During registration, we collect your GitHub username, user ID, email address (if shared), and profile image. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your GitHub account.
You may only maintain one account. You must provide accurate and complete information during registration.
5. Subscription and Pricing
Plans and Billing
dev-drill offers a monthly subscription plan. All prices are displayed in EUR. Payment is processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), which acts as the Merchant of Record. Paddle handles tax collection, invoicing, and chargebacks.
Paddle may charge applicable taxes based on your location. As a Kleinunternehmer (small business) under §19 UStG, we are VAT-exempt and do not charge VAT separately.
Free Trial
New subscribers are eligible for a 7-day free trial. During the trial, you have full access to the Service. Your trial begins immediately upon subscription. You will not be charged until the trial period ends.
If you cancel during the trial period, you will not be charged. After the trial ends, your subscription automatically converts to a paid plan.
Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly). You will be charged the then-current subscription price at the beginning of each new billing period.
6. Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time from the Settings page in the app or by contacting Paddle support. Upon cancellation:
- You will retain access to the Service until the end of your current billing period.
- No further charges will be made after cancellation.
- Your exercise history and progress data will be retained until you delete your account.
7. Refund Policy
No refunds are provided after the free trial period ends. The 7-day free trial is your evaluation period. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged.
If you believe you were charged in error, please contact us at hello@dev-drill.com and we will review your case.
8. AI-Generated Content
The Service uses AI (large language models) to generate exercise content, evaluate answers, and power interactive features. AI-generated content may contain errors and should not be relied upon as professional engineering advice. You are responsible for verifying any information obtained through the Service.
9. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its original content, features, and functionality, is owned by Sebastian Sigl and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Your exercise answers and feedback remain your intellectual property. By submitting feedback, you grant us a non-exclusive license to use it for service improvement.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service.
- Share your account credentials with others.
- Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Service.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content.
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
This limitation of liability does not apply to damages caused by intent or gross negligence, or to claims under the German Product Liability Act.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sebastian Sigl from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
13. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via the Service or by email (if available). Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. Upon termination, the provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive will remain in effect.
15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict of law rules.
For disputes arising from these Terms, the courts of Dresden, Germany shall have exclusive jurisdiction, unless another jurisdiction is mandated by law (e.g., for consumers under the Brussels I Regulation).
16. Dispute Resolution
The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/
We are not willing or obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable or invalid, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
